How CH-Soccerdle works
CH-Soccerdle has two puzzles a day: one Swiss football club and one player of the Swiss national team, the Nati. You type a name, and each column of the row tells you how close you are. The first matchday was 14 October 2026. A new matchday starts at midnight, Swiss time, and everyone gets the same answers.
Modes
Two games with three levels each. Every mode has its own answer, saved game and statistics.
- Clubs Normal: the 22 clubs of the 2026/27 Super League (12) and Challenge League (10).
- Clubs Hard: 40 clubs, adding the 18 Promotion League teams, five of them reserve teams (Basel, Young Boys, Zürich, Lugano, Luzern).
- Clubs Impossible: all 88 clubs down to the three 1. Liga groups. No colours column, because none of the 48 1. Liga clubs has known colours, and different hints.
- Nati Normal: the 35 players of the current squad and recent call-ups.
- Nati Hard: the 142 players capped from 2006 on.
- Nati Impossible: 196 players capped from 1990 on, from Chapuisat to Manzambi.
Within a mode, every club or player comes up once before any comes up again: in Clubs Normal, 22 different clubs in 22 days. Guesses are unlimited. "Reveal the answer" ends the game and needs two clicks, so you do not end it by accident.
The clues, column by column
Green is exact, yellow is close by the rules below, grey is not close. For numbers, an arrow says which way the answer lies. A striped box means the value is unknown; it counts as neither.
Clubs
- Canton: yellow for another canton in the same large region: Lake Geneva (GE, VD, VS), Mittelland (BE, FR, SO, NE, JU), Northwestern Switzerland (BS, BL, AG), Zurich (ZH), Eastern Switzerland (GL, SH, AR, AI, SG, GR, TG), Central Switzerland (LU, UR, SZ, OW, NW, ZG), Ticino (TI). Liechtenstein clubs show FL and count as Eastern Switzerland. Zurich and Ticino are one-canton regions, so for their clubs this column is green or grey, never yellow.
- Language: yellow if at least one language matches. Only FC Biel-Bienne has two (German and French), and it plays in the Promotion League, so in Clubs Normal this column is never yellow.
- League: yellow one league up or down. Clubs Normal has only two leagues, so there it is never grey.
- Founded: yellow within 10 years.
- Stadium: capacity, yellow within 25 percent of the answer's capacity.
- Titles: Swiss championships, yellow within 2. Thun's first title (2025/26) is counted.
- Colours: green for the same set in any order, yellow if one colour is shared.
If the answer were FC Luzern (Lucerne, German, Super League, 1901, 16,490 seats, 1 title, blue and white):
| Guess | Canton | Language | League | Founded | Stadium | Titles | Colours |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| FC Basel 1893 | BS | German | Super League | 1893 ▲ later | 37,994 ▼ fewer | 21 ▼ fewer | red, blue |
| FC Lausanne-Sport | VD | French | Super League | 1896 ▲ later | 12,544 ▲ more | 7 ▼ fewer | blue, white |
Lausanne's stadium is yellow because it is 3,946 seats short, less than a quarter of 16,490.
Nati players
- Club: yellow for another club in the same country. Current players have their club today; everyone else has their best-known club, an editorial choice, so in Hard and Impossible trust birth year and caps more. England counts as its own country.
- Position: goalkeeper, defender, midfielder or forward. Green or grey only.
- Born: yellow within 2 years.
- Caps: yellow within 10.
- Goals: yellow within 3.
- Birthplace: the canton, with the same regions. Players born abroad show the country: green for the same country, yellow if both were born abroad.
If the answer were Djibril Sow (Genoa, midfielder, born 1997, 58 caps, 0 goals, born in Zurich):
| Guess | Club | Position | Born | Caps | Goals | Birthplace |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Manuel Akanji | Inter Milan (Italy) | Defender | 1995 ▲ later | 91 ▼ fewer | 4 ▼ fewer | ZH |
| Michel Aebischer | Union Berlin (Germany) | Midfielder | 1997 | 47 ▲ more | 2 ▼ fewer | FR |
Aebischer's caps are 11 off, one over the limit, so grey. The game does not round in your favour.
Hints
You get a hint after 4, 8 and 12 guesses. Opening them is up to you; the number you used appears in your shared result.
- Clubs Normal and Hard: the stadium name, the number of letters in the short name ("Young Boys" has 9), the first letter.
- Clubs Impossible: the number of letters, the first letter, the colours (or the last letter, where colours are unknown).
- Nati: letters in the surname, first letter of the first name, first letter of the surname.
How to play well
In Clubs Normal, 7 of the 22 clubs are from the Lake Geneva region, so open there. FC Lausanne-Sport works well: Super League, founded 1896 (the range is 1879 to 1944), a mid-sized stadium and 7 titles. If titles come back grey with the arrow down, the answer has 4 or fewer, which removes Grasshoppers, Basel, Young Boys, Servette and Zürich in one go.
Eight of the 22 Normal clubs have never been champions. A zero-title guess that comes back grey means at least 3.
FC Zürich and Grasshoppers share the Letzigrund, the canton, the language and blue and white, and were founded exactly 10 years apart. Guess one and the other's row is almost all green and yellow; only titles (13 against 27) tell them apart.
In Nati Normal, 9 of the 35 players are at Italian clubs and 6 each in Germany and England, so an Italian-based player is the best first test of the club column. Vincent Sierro (Parma, midfielder, born 1995, 17 caps, born in Valais) sits in the middle of most columns. Goals help little early: 18 of the 35 have never scored for the Nati.
Once the canton (clubs) or the position (Nati) is green, an "Only show" checkbox appears that trims the list to what still fits. The list shows the canton or position next to each name, and nicknames work: "YB", "FCB", "GC", or a surname.
Data and sources
The data is a snapshot from 14 October 2026. Leagues follow the 2026/27 Wikipedia season pages (Super League, Challenge League) and the Soccerway and spox tables (Promotion League, 1. Liga). Stadiums and capacities come from the season pages and club articles, titles from Wikipedia's list of Swiss champions, founding years from the club pages and RSSSF. Merged clubs use the year the club itself claims (Xamax 1906, Lausanne-Ouchy 1901, Yverdon 1897). Reserve teams copy canton, language, founding year and colours from their first team and have 0 titles.
Nati data comes from Wikipedia's national team pages and list of internationals, caps and goals checked after the October 2026 window; the 1990 to 2006 players were also checked against RSSSF, Wikidata and 11v11.com. Four 1990s players with almost no public data were left out, and the birthplaces of Marc Hodel and Patrick Bühlmann are unknown. Credits: Wikipedia and Wikidata contributors, RSSSF, Swiss Football League, Soccerway, spox, 11v11.
Real football moves on; the game does not, on purpose. Xhaka will collect more caps, but here he stays at 152 until the next update. Data changes only take effect from a future midnight, so past and current answers never change.
FAQ
Is the answer the same for everyone?
Yes. The server picks each mode's answer from a fixed order, and your browser only learns it when your game ends.
Why is my streak gone?
A streak counts days solved in a row, per mode. A missed day or a revealed answer resets it. Stats live in your browser, so another device, a private window or cleared site data starts at zero.
Can I play past days?
No. The footer shows yesterday's answer for the current mode, and that is all.
Why is my club missing?
Only clubs down to the 1. Liga in 2026/27 are in. Promotion and relegation are not applied mid-season; when the pool changes, it changes from a fixed future date.
A number is wrong.
Possible, especially for 1. Liga stadiums and 1990s players. The contact address is on the About page. Fixes go through the same dated change as any data update.
Which languages?
German, French, Italian and English. Club names stay as the clubs write them.
History
- 14 October 2026: launch, Matchday 1, six modes. The same evening, two fact checks (first the 56 players capped only between 1990 and 2006, then all 196 players and 76 first teams) corrected, among others, Türkyilmaz's caps (62), Sforza's goals (6) and SV Muttenz's founding year (1921).
- 15 October 2026: Fabio Celestini and Boris Smiljanić joined Nati Hard (140 to 142 players), as both were capped in 2006 or later. Launch day kept its original pool and answer. The "Only show" checkbox arrived the same day.
